How to recite it
- When · On Fridays, at Lakshmi Puja on Diwali night, on Sharad Purnima and Akshaya Tritiya, and through the month of Kartik. Evening, once the lamps are lit, is best.
- How · Sit before an image of Goddess Lakshmi, light a lamp of ghee and chant each name slowly, aloud or softly, keeping your mind on her form.
- How many times · All 108 names once is one round, one name for each bead of a 108-bead mala. On Diwali and on Fridays some chant more than one round.
- With what · A lamp of ghee, lotuses or red and pink flowers, kumkum and rice. Many offer a flower, a pinch of kumkum or a few grains of rice at each name, and kheer at the end.
