Tato yuddha parishrantam samare chintaya sthitam,
    Ravanam chagrato drishtva yuddhaya samupasthitam.

Then, on the battlefield, Rama stood worn out by the fighting and lost in thought, for he saw Ravana before him, ready to fight again.

Rama Rama mahabaho shrinu guhyam sanatanam,
Yena sarvan arin vatsa samare vijayishyasi.

Rama, Rama, mighty-armed one, hear an ancient secret. By it, my child, you will overcome all your enemies in battle.

Jayavaham japen nityam akshayyam paramam shivam.

It is the Aditya Hridayam, the heart of the Sun: holy, the destroyer of every enemy, the bringer of victory. Recite it always; it is undying, supreme and full of grace.

    Rashmimantam samudyantam devasura namaskritam,
    Pujayasva vivasvantam bhaskaram bhuvaneshvaram.

Worship Vivasvan, the Sun, crowned with rays, as he rises, to whom gods and demons alike bow: the maker of light, the lord of the worlds.

Esha devasura ganan lokan pati gabhastibhih.

He holds all the gods within him; he is radiant and gives life by his rays. With his rays he keeps the gods, the demons and all the worlds.

Vayur vahnih praja prana ritu karta prabhakarah.

He is the ancestors, the Vasus and the Sadhyas, the two Ashvins, the Maruts and Manu; he is the wind and fire, the breath of all creatures, the maker of the seasons and the source of light.

He is Aditya, son of Aditi; Savita, who brings to life; Surya; the bird that crosses the sky; Pusha, who nourishes; the one full of rays; golden, shining, the seed of gold, the maker of the day.

  6. Verse 11

    Timironmathanah Shambhus Tvashta Martanda amshuman.

His horses are green; he has a thousand flames and seven horses, and is full of light; he churns away the dark; he is the giver of joy, the shaper Tvashta, Martanda, and the one rich in rays.

Ghana vrishtir apam mitro vindhya vithi plavangamah.

He is lord of the sky and pierces the dark; he has mastered the Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas. He sends heavy rain and is the friend of the waters; he travels the path over the Vindhya hills, leaping across the sky.

Kavir vishvo mahatejah raktah sarva bhavodbhavah.

He gives heat; he is the round disc; he is death; he is tawny and warms everything. He is the seer, he is all things, his splendour is great; he is red, and from him all that exists comes forth.

Tejasam api tejasvi dvadashatman namostu te.

He is lord of the constellations, the planets and the stars, and brings the universe into being; he is the brightest of all bright things. You who are twelve in one, as the Sun of each month, I bow to you.
